Having a formal procedure for making decisions is very important when trying to decide on purchasing a new piece of equipment, choosing a new contractor, personnel selection or any other situation when a formal decision has to be made. A formal process is essential in reducing personal bias. When properly applied,it also can withstand undue criticisim. This is all part of  being an effective manager.
