Frequently, people ask the question,"What is a Selectman's Job?". Many people that run for the position of selectman do not have a clue as to what the overall responsibilites entail or what the job is all about.

In 1991, the Maine Municipal Association (MMA) put out a Handbook for Municipal Officers, which I had the pleasure of helping to develop. It consisted of 107 pages and was not readily available to the general public. Using the manual as a base, I condensed the manual to a 12 page document as a synopsis of what a selectman's job is all about. In May, 2000, the Handbook was revised and renamed "Municipal Officers Manual".
